Approachable, popular, legendary
Who is the "Most Valuable Player of All Time" at the legendary 1. FC Union Berlin? Wolfgang "Potti" Matthies, who guarded the Irons' goal in 253 competitive matches between 1974 and 1988. Frank Nussbücker tells the life story of a strong personality who dominated the pitch, made daring runs out of the penalty area, played without gloves for long periods, and is imbued with a loyalty to the club that continues to this day. Fellow players and successors at Union, such as Joachim Sigusch, Rolf Weber, and Ronny Nikol, also have their say.
