Oliver Ruhnert was born in Arnsberg in 1971 and joined FC Schalke 04 as a scout in 2007, where he was heavily involved in developing young talent. In 2017, he moved to 1. FC Union Berlin as chief scout, was promoted to squad planner, and ultimately led the Irons to the Bundesliga.
