About the Artist:

Schlüter is a painter. And a Union fan. He stands on the opposite side of the pitch, near the baseline, close to the old scoreboard. The artist's fan heart, who also works on Hiddensee, has been beating faithfully since the late 80s; Torsten's membership number is four digits long, starting with a one. The rebellious always attracted him. "Union - those were the workers, the hippies, the artists, the punks." In 2001, the club became the subject of large-format painting for the first time. "Promoted" is the title of an entire series of red and white works. The heart of the club now pulsates on the canvas. "Our club is not defined by its players, but by its fans," says Torsten Schlüter.

The book was published by the Economic Council of 1. FC Union Berlin e.V. to coincide with the vernissage in the main stand. Christian Arbeit on the works:

Red and white ecstasy, a sea of flags and beer showers, the thundering "Football God" after every name, the never-ending chants in the stands – every Unioner knows how that feels. But can this feeling also be transported in time and space? Where descriptive words reach their limits, the realm of art begins. Torsten Schlüter has lived and worked in this realm for over 30 years. He has succeeded in capturing on paper and canvas what we always say: "It cannot be described, you have to experience it." And because art and artists are free, are allowed to disturb and unsettle, and are neither dependent on consensus nor even aiming to produce one, they fit, no, they belong here, in this very special place.
